8 Fun Things To Do On A Low Budget This Holiday Season

The holiday season can be an expensive time of year, especially if you're traveling and staying in hotels, eating out frequently, buying gifts, and shopping for other holiday-related activities.

You don't have to spend money to enjoy the holiday season or have fun with your friends and family during this time. With these eight low-budget fun things to do during the holidays, you'll have as much fun as anyone else – even if your budget looks a little tighter than usual this month!

1) Give Back

Giving back this holiday season doesn't have to be expensive.

  • Volunteer with a local organization in need of assistance (organizations like Habitat for Humanity, animal shelters, and food banks)
  • Donate non-perishable food items or toiletries to organizations that provide them to those in need (local shelters, pantries, soup kitchens)
  • Make holiday cards for hospitalized children or elderly people who live alone. You can make these on your own time or take a class at an arts center to get more involved.
  • Cook a meal for someone you know who is sick or struggling during the holidays. If they're not feeling well enough to cook themselves, help them by cooking their favorite dish and delivering it to their door, so they don't have to go out into the cold!
  • Host a cookie exchange party with your friends--the most straightforward way I can spend quality time together!

2) Unwind With Friends

Plan a festive game night with friends. Challenge one another to a round of Uno, Monopoly, or Apples to Apples. Have each guest bring their favorite board game or card game and have some snacks for hunger strikes.

The holidays can be stressful, full of obligations and expectations that make you feel like you're running in place. Why not take the opportunity to relax with family and friends?

3) Go Out to Nature!

The best way to escape the holiday hustle and bustle is to get out of the city and into nature. You can spend time with friends or family or peacefully reflect.

Some great ways to enjoy nature this holiday season are by going on a hike, taking a bike ride, skiing, skateboarding, kayaking, going on a rock-climbing excursion, or going on a biking trip.

4) Give Yourself Some Space

Give yourself some space and relax. Don't take the pressure off the holiday's expectations. You don't have to spend much money to enjoy the holidays. There are many ways to celebrate without spending a lot of money.

Look at your family traditions and find out what you love about them. If you love doing arts and crafts, buy supplies for everyone in the family. And if you love cooking, invite friends over for a holiday-themed potluck.

5) Host An Ugly Sweater Party

Hosting an Ugly Sweater Party is one of the best ways to have some good, old-fashioned holiday fun on a budget. You only need a few friends, tacky sweaters, and a party location.

Guests can also bring hors d'oeuvres or snacks to make it even more festive.

6) Go Picnic For Lunch Or Dinner

Picnics are an easy way to stay and save money. Pack a meal and enjoy it at home, or pack a picnic basket and head off to the park with friends.

If you need more time to feel up for a whole meal, many great snacks can be quickly taken on the go. In the cold season, wear warm and take warm drinks with you!

7) Plan An Adventure

Plan a low-budget adventure for yourself or for your family. Many of the best memories are made during the holidays, which can be difficult to afford if you're on a tight budget. But there are plenty of low-cost options that still provide plenty of entertainment.

Play in the snow! There's nothing more fun than snowball fights and building snowmen with friends and family. If you're feeling brave, try making gingerbread cookies at home! Head over to your local library! Check out some books for everyone in the house and enjoy reading together.

8) Have The Ultimate Movie Marathon

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and celebrations. But what if you're on a budget? Well, fear not- there are plenty of ways to celebrate the season without breaking the bank.

If you're looking for an event to fill up your day with holiday cheer (without costing too much), try hosting an old-fashioned movie marathon. Here's how:

  1. Pick a festive film that everyone can watch; something like Elf or Home Alone will work great!
  2. Gather snacks and drinks; remember to have non-alcoholic options available!
  3. Turn off all phones and TVs while you're watching, so no one has any distractions.
  4. Enjoy spending time with loved ones this holiday season.
